Pac-man, without a doubt one of the most famous games out there and the first one to have a cool character that became an icon of the 1980’s, many documentaries have been made about this game, we know about its creation in Japan by namco, the other name that it had there and the huge success that it was here in the US. It’s no shocker that pac-man was and still is one the most popular retro games that there is, that’s because it is simple and fun! definitely a game that in my humble opinion must be played by anyone looking to get into retro gaming. It was originally released for the arcades but ports of the game (and revamped versions) has been made for pretty much every console, pc and handheld gaming device after that, there’s even a modern ticket redemption arcade nowadays and also the small arcade cabs made by Arcade 1up.
I was already an adult when I saw for the first time an original Pac-man arcade cabinet from the 1980’s because when I started going to the arcades in Mexico ( I grew up there) in the mid 90’s the game was already old and the two local arcades had already gotten rid of most of the old games from the 80’s to make room for the fighting and racing games that most kids in my area preferred but I have been playing the game since I was 6, my dad installed it in a windows 95 computer that I got for my birthday “to be used for school” . Later in late 2000 I bought an old Atari 2600 with a shoe box full of cartridges for it and the Atari version of Pac-man was among those games, that version lacks the visual appeal and the sounds but it still fun to play.
Whenever I feel like playing Pac-man at home without sacrificing too much of that arcade feeling (I believe that Pac-man should not be played with a D-pad) I would do it using any of my 2 Pac-man plug and play consoles by Jakks pacific I own one that was released in 2012 that also come with 11 other games and one that came out in 2007 that has beautiful relief art of Pac-man and 3 of the ghosts, that one comes with 8 games. I will later add pictures of those to this post.
Thank you so much for reading guys! see you in another post.
