The Atari 2600 is like an ancient treasure in the world of video games. It came out in 1977, made by a Atari, Inc. This console was a big deal because it was the first gaming system that lots of people had in their homes and it tried to bring most great arcade titles home (in my opinion it made good use of the resources available at the time in trying to do so). It had a cool wood grain design that was very popular at the time and lots of fun games, like “combat,” “Space Invaders,” “pac-man” and that version of “donkey kong” that made the villian look like a ginger bread man.
According to some old gamers that I know that had the system when it was popular, playing games on the Atari 2600 was a blast! Families and friends would gather around the TV to have fun together, I came to find that out in late 2000 when I bought that old Atari 2600 that I mentioned in my first post, it was old and and had seen better days but man! I really enjoyed playing with it, soon I found myself going to thrift stores, swap meets and video game stores in my area looking for more games. Even though it’s old system, people still love playing on the Atari 2600 (myself included) because it’s simple and addictive.
Even though there are fancier and more powerful gaming systems now, the Atari 2600 still has a special place in gamers’ hearts. In my opinion every good Atari 2600 hundred game is proof that a game does not have to have great graphics in order to be enjoyable.
